Our award-winning partnership here in Babergh and Mid Suffolk, generations of residents get to live fulfilled lives in a district that encourages and empowers them to shape the future they want. But we can’t deliver that vision of future unless we have the right people leading the charge.

  • As the Chief Operating Officer, you have the opportunity to work with the Chief Executive, Senior Leadership Team and Councillors to drive forward transformational plans, focusing on ensuring that all residents receive high quality, value for money services. This is your opportunity to bring your strategic leadership and vision to make a real change through horizon scanning on cross-cutting issues, driving performance improvement across services and act as the political-management interface to support our Portfolio Holders, Cabinets and Members in our journey in maintaining Babergh and Mid Suffolk Councils’ high performance and sustainability promises. You will also act as both Councils’ Monitoring Officer.

You will also have the opportunity to promote a positive image of each organisation equally, acting as an ambassador for the Councils.

  • Located in the heart of Suffolk, the districts of Babergh and Mid Suffolk enjoy incredible landscapes, including two Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, coastal scenes and conservation areas. Babergh is part of the Suffolk Coast and Heaths AONB, which includes the Stour and Orwell estuaries, a site of European nature conservation interest, and Dedham Vale and Stour Valley AONB.

Babergh and Mid Suffolk District Councils are at the forefront of joint working and are a progressive award-winning partnership. Serving over 200,000 residents across our two districts, we are two sovereign councils, each with a strong sense of identity, but with a shared vision of the future. We have integrated our two councils’ workforces and were one of the first districts nationally to move to a joint headquarters, together with our colleagues in Suffolk County Council and our health partners.

Together, we’ll improve resources, refresh our values and do whatever it takes to deliver a thriving, sustainable future for all. This is your opportunity to create a tomorrow where generations can thrive.

Babergh and Mid Suffolk District Councils are committed to agile and flexible working practices (subject to business need). We believe that work is something we do and not somewhere we go; we want our staff to feel enabled and empowered to fully embrace these opportunities.
